September 2015 Yarnbox: Shiny!

Can you believe it the end of September? October is right around the corner! This only means one thing: the weather is perfect for crocheting. Haha, not that I wasn’t crocheting all summer long, but with bigger pieces, it can get hot. Hot and heavy. ….ah… I’m terrible.

Anyway, this month’s yarn is super pretty and different. Firstly, it’s in my favorite color (purple). Secondly, it’s not only soft, but also shiny. Lastly, it’s made from a material called tencel, which is fiber created from wood! Isn’t that neat?

This is from Teresa Ruch Designs in Oregon. Subscribers got two 312 yard skeins of 100% tencel yarn in DK weight. This would make a really nice shawl.

Until next time, happy crocheting!

August 2015 Yarnbox

Welcome to September! I was a little busy at the end of August, so there’s a bit of delay with this box post. No worries, because here we are.

Moving into fall, I think this is the perfect colored yarn.

The yarn this month is from The Verdant Gryphon. They have a fantastic logo! I received two 412yd skeins of sport weight (it’s called Bugga yarn) in the color Saturday Night. It’s 70% merino wool, 20% cashmere, and 10% mylon.

The featured designer this month for crochet is Katya Novikova. It’s pretty!

Until next time, happy crocheting!

July 2015 Yarnbox

Yarnbox is having a KAL/CAL with their May and June yarn! Basically, you just make a sweater with the yarn. Yay! I will be participating! (I know, I don’t have the best track record with CALs, but I love trying.) I’ve decided to make this sweater with the yarn from June. 🙂 Who’s excited?!

And speaking of Yarnbox, they did really well for their July box.

Yarnbox is a subscription box just for yarn that starts at $35.95/month depending on the plan you choose. This is the classic box with a preference on crocheting (sometimes that makes a difference).

CASHMERE. It’s cashmere yarn.

Pepperberry Knits made a Yarnbox exclusive yarn. 100% cashmere, sport weight, 200 yards each, 2 skeins. ❤ It’s love.

There are also patterns for some shawls designed by Mary Beth Temple.

I’m so excited about this!

Until next time, happy crocheting!

June 2015 Yarnbox!

Before we begin, it was my birthday two days ago. I’m now 27. I almost forgot how old I was, and had to do the math out. It’s just that 27 doesn’t seem like a very significant number, such as 13, 18, 21, or 30. Even 25 was more interesting: a quarter of a century! For my birthday, my boyfriend and I traveled to Vermont, and it was most wonderful. That is why I’m only now writing about the Yarnbox, as it’s been a little busy.

Now, back to the yarn.

Yarnbox is a subscription box just for yarn that starts at $35.95/month depending on the plan you choose. This is the classic box with a preference on crocheting (sometimes that makes a difference).

This month is a nice change from the mostly neutral colored yarn I’ve been getting. It is from Mrs. Crosby, and it’s their “Carpet Bag” yarn. Haha, what a funny name. It’s DK weight 80% superwash merino wool and 20% silk = SOFT. Subscribers got two skeins of 240 yards each in Sunset Regatta. The pattern provided this month is from Sara Peterson with a little shawl.

Not bad this month, Yarnbox. 🙂

Until next time, happy crocheting!

May 2015 Yarnbox!

Today is a bit of a time cramp for me. For the first time in months, I set an alarm to wake me up. :O The horror. Hahaha. The late shift work schedule is really different. I did manage to get a lot done! Mainly, because I’ll be going on a weekend trip with the family, so there’s a lot of prepare for.

Yesterday, the May Yarnbox came in the mail. It’s really neutral, but the pattern seems pretty sweet.

Yarnbox is a subscription box just for yarn that starts at $35.95/month depending on the plan you choose. This is the classic box with a preference on crocheting (sometimes that makes a difference).

This month’s featured is from Ancient Arts, which has some amazing colors. Subscribers got either DK or fingering weight yarn from the company. Ancient Arts also has this funny thing: they have these special yarn collections called “Meow Yarn” and “Woof Yarn.” Amusing. These are yarns dyed in the color of different cat/dog breeds. This is another reason I’m a little disappointed with the color I got in the box. This cream color is called Irish Linen. It is a fingering weight of 70% merino, 20% bamboo, and 10% nylon.

However, I’m more excited about the patterns we get this month. For people who got the DK weight, the crochet designer is Carolyn Carleton with the Miranda Vest. What a wonderful pattern! The other crochet pattern this month is for the fingering yarn with designer April Garwood. Both of these patterns are great! I’m really happy with these.

Until next time, happy crocheting!

April Yarnbox 2015

In case you were wondering what happened the entire month of April (as it is May, right now), well, I have my first craft show of the year tomorrow, and I was/am freaking out.

Turns out, my usual stock was pretty much sold out by the end of last year, and I was just making as many things as I could. After tomorrow I’ll be in the clear with shows until November, so, hopefully, things will return to normal.

Anyway, here is the April Yarnbox, which I’m not SUPER excited about. This could be due to how I’m still panicking about the craft show and don’t care enough about this.

DSCN0433

This month featured yarn from Manos Del Uruguay. There are 3 skeins of 100% wool that are about 126 meters each in a dark grey color. The company seems pretty neat. It’s a non-profit organization that helps women in rural areas. The featured crochet pattern this month is from Janet Brani, who provides a hat and glove pattern. Looks like felting is involved…..

Anyway, I’m going to go back to work on the craft show now. See you on the other side!

Happy crocheting!

March 2015 Yarnbox!

Last day of March! The snowing is melting. Good things are happening. 😀

Yarnbox is a subscription box just for yarn that starts at $35.95/month depending on the plan you choose. This is the classic box with a preference on crocheting (sometimes that makes a difference).

Look how colorful this month is!

The yarn this month comes alllll the way from Germany. Skeino provided two skeins of their Splendid yarn in the color Norma. It is 275 yds, 60% silk, and 40% fine merino. I love how soft it feels! Their website values the yarn at $24.95 per skein.

The featured crochet designer this month is Sophie Wire. She has a pompom handwarmers and hat pattern.

There is also a little sample of a new yarn from Skeino called Venice. It has a glitter center that’s surrounded by baby alpaca. Doesn’t it look pretty close up?

Until next time, happy crocheting!

February Yarnbox 2015!

It’s Yarnbox time! After all the snow this winter, being buried in yarn doesn’t seem so bad at all.

Yarnbox is a subscription box just for yarn that starts at $35.95/month depending on the plan you choose.

This month we got two skeins, one from Knitted Wit and the other from Sincere Sheep. Sincere Sheep sent a skein of their Luminous DK yarn in a white/gray color called Cumulus valued at $31. It is 15% Tussah Silk and 85% Polwarth wool. Knitted Wit is a seller on Etsy! This yarn is also 15% silk and 85% Polwarth wool with a value of $22 per skein. It came in a olive green color called Cedar. That’s a total of 660 yards DK weight yarn. 🙂 For a total value of $53! I love this box.

The color combos are great for a super fun project. It’s kinda funny as I’ve been using colors like this more lately, and I been wearing there colors too. It’s a mopey winter- dark and colorless. Monotonous with a hint of life.

This month’s designer is Kira Dulaney, who provides a two tone cowl for crochet. Yarnbox is aiming to incorporate the yarn into the patterns they give, and I really like that idea!

Overall, I’m happy with the box this month!

Until next time, happy crocheting!

Yarnbox January 2015

Yesterday was very snowy and wet, yet today is so sunny and nice. I didn’t want to go out at all yesterday, but I really needed some air, so I took a nice stroll to the mailbox. Haha. It was very nice to get some yarn in the mail. 😀

The yarn this month is from Feederbrook Farm. It is a really colorful dye job! There’s two skeins of DK weight, 260 yards, 100% wool yarn. This would be great yarn to make a scarf, which are the featured patterns this month from Sarah Jane (crochet) and Sarah Jordan (knitting). Yarnbox is doing a new thing this year, where the patterns that are given are with the yarn in mind. Previously, they were just random patterns. I’m actually really happy about the crochet pattern, especially with this yarn! Sarah Jane is an amazing designer, and I’ve been eyeing a lot of her patterns for a long time (hellooooo, Steampunk corset!!). There are many things I want to make from her! I finally get a chance to!

I’ve been trying to go through my yarn (yarn fasting, if you will) with the exception of Yarnbox, so hopefully, this year there will actually be more room around here, than just my yarn. 😛

Happy crocheting!

December 2014 Yarnbox

I get about 3 subscription boxes regularly: Birchbox, Popsugar Must Have, and Yarnbox. In terms of value, they all have their perks, but Yarnbox is probably my favorite, because I get exposure to my favorite thing- yarn! The LYS doesn’t always have such a variety of brands and types, and also, I wouldn’t even think about buying it. Once I get the yarn in a box though, I think of all the possibilities I could make with it, and it is wondrous. Every month is beautiful. This month is no exception.

The yarn this month is from a company in the UK called Baa Ram Ewe (how cute)! This is their fingering yarn blend called Titus in the color Aire. It is made from 70% British wool (50% Wensleydale longwood and 20% bluefaced leicester) and 30% UK alpaca. It is so soft! Each skein is 320 meters. The featured designers this month are Denise Voie de Vie with a crochet pattern and Mindy Wilkes with a knitted pattern. I don’t think I’ve mentioned this before, but Yarnbox also includes a new type of stitch with each box. They are almost always knit stitches so I never mention them, but I guess if I ever learn to knit it would be a good card to have. This month is also a knit stitch- the hemp stitch.

Until next time, happy crocheting!
