It’s Been 5 Months…. Hello!

What happened?

Well, for starters, Photobucket was really getting on my nerves and I just gave up on it for a while- I have been really good about updating my Instagram and Ravelry accounts though. I’m so happy Ravelry allows me to link to Instagram- makes things so much easier! If you are curious enough about my crochet projects, here’s my Ravelry, and if you’re just curious about pictures I take, here’s my Instagram. I think I made this blog before I discovered Ravelry. Once Ravelry happened, it was much easier to keep track of projects and new patterns. Essentially, this blog is a bit irrelevant.

Now it seems that WordPress has you directly upload to their servers…. I don’t know how I feel about that. What if I run out of space?! Are you forcing me to pay you, WordPress?

Secondly, I’ve been going through a tough time since around October. Everything has been kinda hazy and feeling dull- mild depression and anxiety.  I’m trying to do my best though! Some days are better than others. I hope to get to a point where I have more better days than not, but when you’re living in the moment, it’s hard to gauge until you look back. Sometimes looking back is difficult.

Thirdly, remember that flower blanket I’ve been working on? That’s all I’ve pretty much been working on. One project isn’t much to post. I have, however, finally finished said afghan! Just a couple of weeks ago actually. Yes, all 70 squares, plus a border!

I’m sorry about the coloring in the photo. The lighting around here is not great, and I don’t have the best camera. That’s a queen-sized bed. It’s really heavy actually, and I finished it just in time for summer! Haha. Next winter, though, it’s going to be my savior.

This close up shot of the corner has slightly better lighting.

The border is not part of the original pattern. The original pattern has you do a round of plain old double crochet in the buff color all around the edge. That seemed boring. So, I pulled out my trusty “border bible” (and this is the first time I’ve actually used it, which was very exciting), and figured #9 was the best fit. I have many crochet books that I’ve never used, and it’s always exciting when I get to use them. Hahaha

After two years, I finished the project!

There’s some projects from around Christmas that I haven’t posted and I’ve been dabbing in some smaller projects between this huge blanket, so I’ll post about those eventually.

Until next time (and I promise it’ll be sooner, rather than later), happy crocheting!

70 Flowers

A while back I mentioned that I was going to make a flower afghan and that I’ve been wanting to make it for a couple of years now. I’m happy to report that stage 1 has been completed!

This is what 70 crocheted flowers look like:

DSCN0500These 70 flowers will eventually become 70 squares! Each of these flowers has taken me 15 minutes, so you can do the math on that one. I might have to keep this afghan, I’ve spent so much time on it. Although, if someone I know- really know, really love- is going to get married or something, this would make an excellent wedding gift.

Until next time, happy crocheting!

The Red Blanket, Part 2!

Yes, it’s finally here! I’ve been blogging small bits about this piece for the last couple months, and now it’s here. With seven different granny squares hooked together to make a blanket about the size of a twin sized bed, The Red Blanket Part II is now completed. You can’t even tell that I ran out of the multicolored yarn, unless you look really closely.

There’s a total of 45 squares. Not bad. The original Red Blanket had 25 squares, and this is just a heavily modified version of the original.

In other news, you may remember that I was trying to lose some weight a couple months ago. I’m happy to announce that I was sort of successful, as I’m not at my goal weight yet, but I did lose weight. 🙂 Just losing 5 pounds really changes how you look (and feel)! I was very surprised. Continuing with that, there’s a website called DietBet, where you are basically betting against yourself (and maybe thousands of other people) with real money to try to lose 4% of your weight in 28 days. I’ve signed up for one, and as I’m really conservative/serious about money, I WILL DEFINITELY LOSE THE 4% OR ELSE!! Yeah, I think it’s a really good motivation. If I do manage to lose the 4%, then I’ll be at my goal weight! This is happening; it’s a thing!

Lastly, two more days until my yarn giveaway ends. Be sure to enter if you want some nice yarn! 😀

Fan Friday: March Madness Begins

I’m been slacking when it comes to posting, but I’m happy to report that I’ve handed in my thesis! 🙂 Hooray! Now, I’ll just be prepping for my defense. Hopefully, I’ll have more time to actually crochet now.

Today for Fan Friday, it’s March Madness! Brackets are filled in! Yesterday was the first day, and my bracket is doing okay so far, except for that win by Harvard.

Anyway, for the full basketball spirit, check out this blanket:

I’m a fan!

S&T Sunday: Paint the Room Red

This is a little project I did a few months ago for my friend. She has a lot of red decorations around her house, so I thought this would be a very fitting addition.

It’s made from 25 squares, and if I remember correctly, it’s about 4′ x 4′. They were traditional squares, but the color patterning is a little different (there are 5 different color schemes). 🙂

S&T Sunday: The 50’s 50

Last time on The Adventures of a 50th Anniversary Afghan, little 50 was growing up very nicely.

Now, I’ve completed the centerpiece!

You may notice the bit of red in the middle. Interesting story, I was running low on the rose color, and couldn’t find it in the store, and at some point was having some internal dialogue that goes, “GAAAAH! What am I going to do?!?!” Finally, as I mentioned last week, I took apart that really ugly hat, because it was the same color, but still it wasn’t enough. That’s why there’s that red in the middle, because I was freaking out about running out of yarn. That also explains the blue/green center of the zero.

As of now, only 200 squares to go! Wooooo~!

Motif Monday: Fall Already?

It’s been getting colder lately, and the leaves are changing colors too! Yay, fall!

You know what’s great for this cooler weather? AN AFGHAN! (:D LOL, I know, I’m crazy about them.)

This is such a fitting fall one, this it? Pattern is on Red Heart, here:

Motif Monday: Ripple Baby Blanket

Most afghans I’ve had are rectangular, which is why I thought this pattern was really cool.

It’s round! This is definitely on my “to-try list.”

The pattern can be found on Ravelry from user, Celeste Young: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rainbow-ripple-baby-blanket

S&T Sunday: Striped Afghan

My very first projects consisted of only one color. This is my first multicolor project and also my first huge (aka not a baby blanket) afghan.

It took two months to complete and is based off the “Stripy Throw” by Erika Knight pattern in her book, Simply Crochet.  It was also the first time I ever did a picot edging:

I don’t remember the colors, but this is all Red Heart Super Saver yarn. Cheap, yet warm- excellent for making afghans. Wool is so expensive, sadly. 😦 Anyway, this is the project that started my afghan kick, which I’m still riding out now.
